PSX Emulators ![]() The playstation is a powerful CD console with 5 processors running concurrently, with the main cpu running at 33.8mhz. This may seem little but with its powerful Matrix processor, it was perfect for 3d graphics. The other consoles on the market, Snes, Genesis, 3DO etc, paled in comparison with this new 3d monster. Some graphic specs to give you a picture of the console: # 16.7 million colors # Resolution: 256x224 - 740x480 # Sprite/BG drawing # Adjustable frame buffer # No line restriction # Unlimited CLUTs (Color Look-Up Tables) # 4,000 8x8 pixel sprites with individual scaling and rotation # Simultaneous backgrounds (Parallax scrolling) # 360,000 polygons/sec Playstation emulation is incredibly well developed these days. They use plugins, just like N64, to make sure as much hardware (pc hardware that is) is supported as possible. Users with Nvidia or ATI graphics cards should not have problems running these emus, the rest may have to try a few plugins... Essential Files: SCPH1001 (bios) SCPH7502 (bios) Pete's GPU plugins V1.76 (plugins pack for most graphics cards) Pete's OpenGL2 PSX GPUs V2.7 (plugin pack for "very" modern graphics cards) Null2's SPU Driver V1.35 (audio plugin, usually not needed, prolly the best) ePSXe (Homepage) Most definitely the best PSX emulator available, and best of all it's freeware. This emu, just like most PSX emus requires a bios file (unzip the bios files into the /bios folder), video plugin (unzip to the plugins folder) and for some users, sound plugin. These can all be downloaded above. Download ePSXe v1.6.0 Download ePSXeCutor v1.0.6.0 (frontend) |
