Default Self-Booting 900MB Releases! Good or bad?

I've come into the possession of a nearly complete collection of PAL TOSEC GDI images. In fact the only games that are missing are:

Evolution 2: Far off Promise
Giant Killers
Grinch, The
MoHo
Sega Swirl
Sonic Shuffle
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six

I've been thinking about buying 900MB CD-Rs and releasing the larger sized games onto them using no or minimal downsampling, this would eliminate poorly downsampled games and glitchy audio occurences. I just wondered if this would be a welcomed idea or a bad one as some may complain about having to go the extra mile to buy 900MB CD-Rs? But hey, it's all about quality! Right?

Sounds like a good idea, and even the GDI dumps here get marked as emu only.

A couple questions though:

1.) Don't you need a burner that supports burning in the format required by larger than standard 700MB CDrs?

2.) Is it possible to make those size discs self-boot? I heard they weren't capable, and you'd need a boot disc.

I won't personally know if they're capable until I get hold of some, which will hopefully be this Saturday. I'll process a GDI onto one and report the result here.

I personally don't like 900mb CD-R because I can't find them to buy and I read that there are a lot of brands that can't be read by DC. 80min CD-R are more acessible, and 90% of the times quality loss is acceptable.

Im ok with 900 mb disc, i have just like 40 of them , but they are impossible to find in my country too. I think is still a good idea, quality is the best way in my opinion and even many people coud have the same problem finding those disc, I think thats not the proper way to think about it, cause there are plenty of DC fans in all the world, and your work could come in handy for them. Even if they are not the total of DC fans, i think it worth it, cause there are lots of 800mb releasers at the Dc scene (please tell me, how much games exactly u have in mind for those 900mb releases?? i want to be ready for ur coming work xD)

Initially I only plan to release larger games such as Resident Evils, Sonic Adventures et cetera and wait to see what kind of response would be garned from those. Also I can point all of you in the direction of these magical 900MB discs and that is here. According to their website they post to many European countries and accept PayPal! For our American friends, who which probably make up most of our community, head here.

DealExtreme.com sells 99min CDs that works well on DC (I tested with ShenmueII),for a decent price, and ships worlwide FREELY. Nobody should now have issues getting those (BANANA DIGITAL) 99min CD-R.
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.4478

Be sure your burner DOES support 99min cd-r. Most Plextor drives does, as the YAMAHA GREAT CRW-F1 (What I use) and some other drives, look on cdfreaks to find out if your burner supports it (some burner supports it if you upgrade the firmware).

I hope this settles it out!

Just to get this shit straight...

Unless your burner is more than 10 years old, it WILL burn 99 minutes CDs WITHOUT A PROBLEM. Seriously. You only have to enable overburning, that's all. Hell, i have a Lite-On 48x24x48 cd burner, and it burns 99 minutes cds.

exactly. Almost every burner nowadays will burn 99min CD-Rs without problems.

I know it's not that easy to get 99min CD-Rs in US but there are some online shops that sell them.
In Europe it's no problem at all, almost every shop sells 90 and 99min CD-Rs.
