I've read up on the meaning of those words, system and fixedsys and I see the problem. But are you sure that the problem lies within VB ?

We tried to use the Fixedsys font... but it isn't displayed properly.

The reason could be:
a) you don't have the font on your PC
b) something is wrong with vB config
c) perhaps, the font is missing on the server

We tried to install the fixedsys font but it still shows Verdana instead of Fixedsys. Seems like the font type is overwritten by css commands or something.
