Cool (PCE-SCDČ) Beyond Shadowgate (NTSC-U) (37MB)

(PCE-SCDČ) Beyond Shadowgate (NTSC-U) (37'7mb) (84mb unpacked)
Image format: iso+mp3 (the cue is for wav files so use a program like winamp to transform the mp3 to wav before mounting or burning the iso)

This game is a real jewel, a must have for adventure games (a for everyone games collection). Is a mix between a graphic adventure & an action game. I was looking for it for years but the wait was well deserved.

The LatchKeyKid review for gamefaqs:
The original Shadowgate for the NES was a favorite for many. For being a point and click game, it was very immersive, mind boggling, and most importantly, fun. Back in 93, Icom Simulations and TTI released a sequel for the ill fated US Turbo Super CD. It was a big departure from it's predecessor in that it was a side scroller. Instead of just controlling a pointer like in the first, you control Prince Eric, a descendent of the original warrior who became King after the first Shadowgate. He is on his way back from being away from his kingdom for a long time. He has received news that his father, the king, had been murdered and he is to assume the role as the new king. Unfortunately for Eric, his father's "loyal" advisor is up to no good and frames eric for his father's murder. As soon as he steps off of his ship, he is thrown in jail, and this is where the game starts. You move Eric (very slowly) around the screen and you can call up a few different icons by hitting the select button. You can look at your surroundings, grab things, and use items using the three icons. You can also Punch and duck using the I and II buttons. The puzzles can get pretty tough, but nothing that'll hinder your progress for long. One such puzzle is that if you kill the baby Wyverns, you will not be able to get the statue, which in turn will not let you get the gauntlet, meaning you can't get the sword, meaning you won't be able to see one of the three endings. It is worth noting that some of the death scenes are very gruesome and give the game an even higher replay than it already has (if you're sick like me . Overall I think it's a shame that this game never really got any recognition. Even now the N64 version of Shadowgate is out and Beyond Shadowgate still doesn't get a mention. It's a shame, because it is a good game.

Graphics: Very good, using the power of the Turbo's Super CD very well. All the backgrounds are hand painted and the animation on the characters is pretty good. 10/10

Sound: Awesome soundtrack, and good sfx, once again using the power of the Super CD well. 10/10

Playability: This is where the game falls short. It's so slow that some may be turned off by it and not even get out of the first dungeon. There should've been a speed up option like on the King's Quest games. 7/10

Fun: Well, if you like solving puzzles, good story and acting, or the occasional violent and gory death scene, this game delivers! Then again, it is a point and click game at heart so some may not like that. 9/10

Overall, if you have a Turbo Duo, this is a must have. 9/10.

Tested in Magic Engine & works fine.
How to play the PC Engine CD games:
Spoiler

The tutorial for PC Engine CD is WIP (I'm doing it but it will take me a few days more to complete it: I'm doing some other things at the moment).

For now some steps:
- You need a PC Engine emulator (like ootake (XP only), mednafen or magic engine: in the last one you can play 5 minutes maximum except you have the full version).

For PC Engine CD:
To use it you have to have the bios in the emulator's folder (sites like gametronik have them) called syscard 1,2 & 3

Usually the uploads are iso+mp3+cue and the cue is for wav files so you have to transform the mp3 into wav using a program like winamp (nullsoft output plugin) and then after having the wav files (check that the names of the wav matches the ones that the cue have) you can mount the cue in a virtual drive or burn the cd using the cue.

When you have it mounted enter the emulator and start the pc engine cd.
