The very first game of the great series... one of my all time favorites..

Loosely based on the classic medieval Chinese novel "Water Margins" (Shuihuzhuan) by Shi Nai'an, this is a fantasy RPG set in an imaginary universe, its main theme being political struggle. The hero of the game is the young son of Theo McDohl, a general who serves the Scarlet Moon Empire, presently controlling the land of Toran. Through a series of events the hero becomes involved in a rebellion against the Empire, led by an organization known as the Liberation Army. Will the hero find a new home there, will he be able to tear himself away from everything that has been sacred to him, including his own father?..

"Suikoden" is a console-style RPG with several unusual additions. There are three kinds of combat in the game: the most common one is the traditional turn-based party combat (you can have up to six people in your active party). You equip magic runes on your characters that allow limited usage of offensive and healing spells. There are also army battles, where you control units of fighters, archers, magicians, etc., and one-on-one fights.

"Suikoden" allows the player to build and customize a castle, which serves as your home base and your fortress. You can recruit up to 108 characters in the game (a tribute to 108 Stars Of Destiny in "Water Margins"). Many of those characters will be available as active party members and participate in battles, while others will be your strategy advisers, or enhance your castle in various ways.This game is in my opinion one of the best RPGs on the Playstation at the moment. Okay so it doesn't look as amazing as Final Fantasy 8. Nor as it has as good a review as Final Fantasy 8 but this game has sheer depth! The story is a little linear but there's 108 characters to play for crying out loud! It's all set around General Teo McDohl's son who you play. His father goes off to war in the north while he helps out in the army. One day his friend Ted reveals his secret power with a rune called the Black Rune. The army takes away Ted but not without a fight from the Hero and his friends Gremio, Cleo and Pahn. The Hero is denounced a rebel and is sentenced to death. So he does what a rebel would do and joins the rebels in their fight against wrong.

The game took me around 45 hours to complete with all 108 characters. Probably if you didn't bother with all the characters you could complete it in around 20 but that'd ruin the fun! Now admittedly this will never change non-RPG fans opinions of RPGs but fanatics like me will love this! You should be able to find it fairly cheaply now as it's sequel Suikoden 2 has just come out. Another advantage is if you keep your save file with all 108 characters, it will load onto Suikoden 2! because i love ff7 more than any rpg or so you can say...

i think i prefer filefactory more because its more efficent and i doesnt requrie you to wait 60 min like rapidshare omg....

yeah not bad but im a ff8,fan myself,about this game,if its anything like suikoden 2 then this in my opinion is better,i have never played an rpg like this,shame they couldnt continue as the newer versions arent actually as good,looking forward too the newest one all the same,if konami keep making suikoden,and kept up vandal hearts,i think they would have been just as good as final fantasy:cheers2:

Suikoden is the 1st rpg game I have ever played my folks bought it for me b/c It was cheap and then I started playin it and then everyone just hovered over by me just watchin me play. Dude I luv you for this upload, After that game got loaned to my cuzin (His dog broke it) I never played the Suikoden games again. I was never able to beat the game b/c I was broken so I never played it again.

for some reason, the game is now slowing down a lot and the music is skipping or not even starting at all, and it freezes at times. could this be the ISO or the cd that i'm using? its just a regular CD-R, and i'm not sure if these were built to really handle a playstation game, though it fit just fine.

I thought that tactics was the worst game in the serious. It was kinda cool seeing what happened after 4 and all but still its storyline was really cool and the whole fish thing was pretty damn lame.

Suikoden is one of those rare gems that are often bypassed in awe of greater graphics, better sound, or more well known titles, such as Final Fantasy, any of the Tales of XXXXXX games, or Dragon Warrior series. To bad for those people who just pass this little guy by because Suikoden is PACKED with all kinds of cool things. Not only does this game have 108 characters!, it features a semi linear storyline that is fantastic. Plus it has one of my personal favorite characters of all time, GREMIO. (In most online games I play, I name my characters after him :gamefreak:) Well, here it is in all it's glory: One single file. Enjoy!

Yes, this one is a classic, one of Konami's best PSX games. I'm not a fan of Anime-Based RPGs but Suikoden is definately an exception. Thnx for sharing!!!
