Description:
You might just know that Carmageddon caused a whole lot of trouble when it
came out on PC. The 'censors' took offence to the idea of running people over
for fun, and tried to ban it. As a result Carmageddon achieved a notoriety and
level of attention it wouldn't otherwise deserve. Like the PC version, the
people have been replaced by zombies, but you would be hard-pressed to
make out what you are running over.

As the manual enthuses, Carmageddon is a race game without rules. There
are tracks, but you can choose to leave them, there are checkpoints, but you
can choose to ignore them. Basically, you want to be the last man standing,
similar to games like Destruction Derby and Vigilante 8. The crucial elements
of the game are time, money and damage.

You are awarded time on the basis of checkpoints you pass, people (sorry,
zombies) you run over and power-ups you collect. You suffer damage to your
car from anything you run into, but as long as you have money, you can
repair it instantly. There are lots of barrels lying around that have other
power-up features, like the electro death-ray, or turbo power, or something
nasty like jelly suspension.

After the race begins, most of the computer cars choose to go off in all
directions and run into each other. If you follow them and 'waste them' all you
open up a new level. Get lots of money and you can have access to more of
the 30 cars. There are ten tracks in all. Most of the game's difficulties are
technological. It looks awful for a start, and the 3-D engine is incredibly
messy when vehicles are catapulted through walls or into the air, turning it
into a huge glitch-a-thon. It may not be morally offensive, but it is on the eye
