Thanks dood, too bad ysi links expires within a week :(

Hijuda
02-11-2006, 03:13 AM
Expiration in 7 days? That's not YSI's only problem. If memory serves, YSI only allowed 1 GB of transfer bandwidth per file. back at EP, we had a large problem with link stealers, and the 1 GB transfer thing was the main reason. Since this file is already over 600 MB large, I'm amazed it's lasted as long as it has. YSI is an excellent option for uploads... unless more than five people want access to it.

Thanks for wasting my time and CD's AGAIN. This is also a BAD RIP, it will freeze at the cut scene after you beat the forest jungle level. This is cleary the same bad rip of sonic adventure 2 that is posted at the DCScene.net forums as well, it does the same thing.

What did you do, just steal their posts and add it here in yours? Did you even play through it before you posted it?! Obviously Not!

WHY?!!!! This is like a cruel joke.

DONT WASTE YOUR TIME GETTING THIS PEOPLE IT IS A BOGUS COPY!!!!!!!

1.your serouisly going to get in trouble
2. your post is in the wrong are

Hijuda

Dude, bad rips are far more common than you think. It seems that whenever this game is ripped in MDF/MDS format, the same cutscene glitches are made on the image. So people, rip it in .CDI format.

Oh, and quit being such an asshole. Nobody likes an asshole.

First, Allow me to Apologize for posting a Problem here and not in its proper thread. I use other forums similar to this, and thus got my rules for the different sites "mixed up" for lack of better term.

Second, I apologize sincerely to anyone I offended with my above said post(I deleted it). You guys are right, I realize this. I just love this game, and being dissapointed twice may have caused me to lose temper, whic I seldom ever do, I am a nice person normally.

I know that I cant even begin to understand how much hard work goes into making a site like this possible, and I want to know that I DO appreciate the great work you her very much. You guys are Heroes in the Dreamcast world, in the opinion of all DC players I know; including myself.

Please accept my apology, If I could have deleted/edited the post already I would have . But I didnt see the edit button I must be blind :1087:

And last, It comes in .mdf/.mds format how am I supposed to convert to cdi? I primarily use Alcohol 120% for my DC burning, and it will only create an image for this disk in .mdf/.mds or .ccd (cloneCD image), when said image is mounted. Are you telling me that it won't freeze at the cutscene after the forest/jungle level (where you first fight shadow, and have 8 minutes to escape)? Has anyone out there got past this error? If so please post somthing for me.

OK, but one question? Is CDI one bootable in Chankast, does it work?
I heard some bad things about some echelon releases and Chankast (emu crashes on intro), so can you please tell me if it can work?

Please, answer me soon, 'cause I am about to download 640 mb with a 56k dial-up conection, and it would be bad if I do it for nothing.

Sorry if this post is not in its place, I'm just too confused about this game.

9 times out of 10, CDI files are self-boot. I'm not entirely sure about this game, though.

Joca
08-01-2006, 10:42 AM
It's not the problem if it is self-boot or not, I will make it self-boot if I need.
I know that Sonic Adventure 2 is playable in chankast (with radeon gfx, which I have).
I am asking if this particular CDI image is compatable with Chankast, because I know that some echelon releases cause Chankast to crash.
Anyone that tried this image (CDI) on Chankast, please, answer me soon, cause i will soon start downloading it. Just tell me does it start the game propertly.

Eleminator30
08-06-2006, 01:26 PM
At the title, this game is 649.32 MB in size....and I'm very sure thats a compressed size to. But to your advantage, this file is broke up into 3 parts. Thus, making the parts 200 something MB part files. We break files up like this ( not just because most sites have a limit to upload at a time...well mainly during this time, but now we're finding sites that can upload up to 1 or 2GB at a file ) for people that have 56k modems like you. I still pity the people that still have 28.8k modems though :nono0yi:

Well, Warior's is in MDF/MDS format ( he used megaupload ) so the cdi version must be the mirror, which is the filefactory one by Matrix.

Is this CDI for the 10th anniversary edition of the game? If that isn't evident directly, is there a bug in the Cannon's Core level whereby Eggman falls through the floor right away?

If not, does anyone know where there is a copy of the game that does have that bug?

Neither is perfect.

The CDI version has the legendary Eggman-falling-thru-ground-in-last-stage glitch.

I haven't test the MDF version. But, if it's the version that crashes after either Sonic's Green Forest or Shadow's White Jungle levels, could someone please try setting the dub language to JAPANESE? Playing in Japanese uses to skip this glitch in some versions (the characters will still speak English, except for two FMVs: the one after the Egg Golem boss fight and the one before the Cannon's Core stage)

OMG Im getting so fustrated every version I use for sonic adventure 2 either freezes during the first stage or it crashes after I beat the green forest level with sonic does anyone have a patch or different version to fix this problem?:starwars:

Well did u guys try the one by silvrred I know its a 7z file but once u have all the parts u just download the 7z program and extract all the files. I got past the part where it crashes at the green forest but I downloaded the torrent from mininova so download the torrent from mininova with the 7z files and use the 7z program.

I found this some time ago, I don't remeber where anymore. It was some fan site (I think):

But then one hour later, omgIcan'tsleep. So in a last ditch effort to entertain myself, I boot up my Sonic Adventure 2 ISO; however, it is the old Echelon release, and thus, Eggman goes through the first floor (and thus dies at the stage's start) when it comes to the last storyline. Well, I FOUND A WAY AROUND THAT. See, Eggman's level is shaped downward. After going through the floor, just hit diagonal up and right and hover. Eventually the floor will disappear and you'll see nothing but black and a dot. Keep going up and right; you'll see a cube on tob of a long, vertical tunnel. Keep going, and you'll eventually see a very, very high redish black cylinder. Just hover next to it, you'll slowly go down. Eventually, you'll see an acid vat under the cylinder. Go INSIDE the cylinder (pass through it) when you're almost at the bottom and VOILA. You're at the end of Eggman's level in the Last Storyline! Finish it, move on to Rouge, Knuckles and Sonic, and damn, you're on to the end! (I had to do this over ten times before I understood I needed Knuckles' Air Necklace. Grrrrr.)

I can't test it, cause I never succeded in downloading the game, let me know if this works, 'cause it's unconfirmed.

I have downloaded the second iso (from megaupload, since the other two was deleted), and starting playing in the Chankast. Is works, runs fast (2.5ghz cpu, 512ram and 256mb geforce 6200), but it shows ugly polygons all the way of the first level. I read from the compatibilty's oficial site that this problem happens only with the US version, and it goes only for the first level. But its realy hard to get past of the first boss with this glicht, so if anyone plz have the European image, upload for us. Thanx (To all that want it on the Chanka, it works, but not perfectly. Yet it still deserve a trie).
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ainda sim, vale a tentativa).

Once again Megagames comes to the rescue - Echelon missed a protection routine on their first release of this game, but they issued a fix for it. Here is the extract from the original *.nfo file:

- --- Release Notes ------------------------------------------------>

Sega put a very sneaky protection scheme on this game which we did
not catch when first cracking it. It causes the game to have
graphics errors on the last mode. This PPF fixes it. After all the
burns and bad releases of this game, you now finally have a 100%
one with which you can complete the game. Enjoy!

1) APPLYPPF.EXE E-SONIC2.CDI E-SON2FX.PPF
2) Burn the fixed CDI with DiscJuggler as usual

- --- Group News --------------------------------------------------->

Get rid of all the other Sonic 2 discs, this is the last one!

Dowload the fix here:

Youre are the men, assyrix. I use his patch (successfuly) on these CDI image:

http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/8405/sa2oldtu2.png

And then tried Chankast. Finally, the first stage and Canon Core are fully working on Chankast. I'll try this on real DC later...

Again, thanks a lot men!!! :partyman:

The Links posted by hardcoremasterz at the top of this page is the real deal working .CDI version, no need to use the Mds/Mdf ones anymore.

This doesn't freeze on the cutscene after the Green Forest/White Jungle Level, Like the Mds/Mdf rip so I was able to finally pass that part.

However I am unsure as to if this was the correct thread to ask that in, as I don't know if there is a section that deals with this already.;)

It works fine for me, I don't know what problem you can be having oO

Try posting and making a thread in the troubleshooting section, I'm sure there is a forum for your exact problem. You'll be able to get the help needed there.

Maybe you just got a corrupted download or something, I don't know. A moderator will probably post, and hint you in right direction to post your problem.

Btw, the link by hardcoremasterz is still the echelon rip, however it is the .CDI version and doesn't freeze on the cutscene after the Green Forest/White Jungle level like the .mds/.mdf version did;).

Currently I'm in the egg quarters after tails sand board finding keys. I don't know if the problem you are experiencing is the on where eggman falls through the floor in the Cannon's Core level.

For Christs Sake, Just download the one above that I quoted!

I had also said this above as well, but it seemed it was ignored. The link posted by hardcoremasterz, is the real working .CDI version. It has no need to be patched as it works flawlessly and is a good rip.

All other links are dead, except for the MegaUpload version posted by hardcoremasterz. It's still the Echelon Version, however it doesn't have the problems that the MDF/MDS Version did with freezing.

Just download the version that I quoted above and everything should be fine and dandy.

But for the love of Jeebus, stop posting your problems here and post them in the Correct Section (TroubleShooting);)

I've got this game running, but it's doing something weird with the background textures. I've attached a screenshot to show the problem. It's hard to describe, but it's like part of the floor becomes the background, and it obscures everything else that should be there.

The first boss should be plainly visible on this screen, but, as you can see, it is not.

Someone said posts ago that problems with downloads/playing dont go here!!!

Your problem starts with a "C" and is followed by "hankast". You should try nullDC.

EvilCreature
04-30-2007, 11:07 PM
Yeah, try NullDC. It is the most recent emulator that is actively being developed on and has greater compatibility and speed than Chankast if your specs meet the requirements, however King boom booms shadow won't be displayed and is currently a problem with all the DC emulators as the feature needed hasn't been implemented in any of the DC emulators yet, so you will have to find a save or cheat that will allow you to pass that part for the time being.

Chankast has not been updated or worked on in over two years, and currently has more problems with regards to Compatibility and speed than NullDC or Demul.

Also it has been stated By the Moderators as well as the person who posted before me, that all problems are to be posted in the troubleshooting section of this forum;)

I or anyone else will be happy to answer your questions and help you if you post in the correct section.

hobscrk777

I'm currently using NullDC and SA2 seems to work fine. However, I can't hear any voices when I enable Japanese voices. To corroborate, I've also tried both sound plug-ins and neither of them worked.
I also procured the Echelon and PAL copies and the Japanese dialogue still refuses to play out. Is there something I'm doing wrong?
BTW, the DD link for this game leads to an error, which is why I'm posting here.

Hei sorry for posting but i can`t put Sonic Adventure 2 savegames in NullDC.Can somebody post me a message and how to do it I`ll delete the post soon when I get the answer.Promise
Google for a piece of software called VMU Explorer. It's a Dreamcast memorycard manager. Load up both of the VMU files from Chankast and NullDC. You can easily copy the saved file from the Chankast VMU to the NullDC VMU..alas enabling you to get to your saved game in NullDC.
I use this little trick for cheating on Resident Evil Code Veronica  since NullDC doesn't have a cheater out YET...but I'm sure there will be because NullDC has a lot of potential.

Finished It!!Sonic Transformed into Supersonic and defeated the Biolizard. It Toked me long to finish the other levels.Anyway I played Sonic Adv DC iso and had a glitch But in change I downloaded Sonic Adventure DX and no diference between them. Not at all.Anyway great upload from hardcore masters.I tested that to and worked at Jungle level and Cannon core. And you can finish the game with ease.Except from that part with King boo boo.Take another savegame:thumbsup:

It seems that Dumpcast has only released two game collections and neither of them include SA2. Also, their official site has a plethora of non-working links so it's impossible for me to access the file database. Is it possible to give me a direct link to the NTSC-J version.

The forum indicates that they have already successfully ripped a copy of the Japanese game from the Birthday Pack.

The torrents packs that you see in Google search are old and inaccurate. You must search for another web with the official dumps (there many game dumped).

One reason that a poster might not be getting the Japanese voices is because the nullDC sound plugin is a bit iffy. On Sonic Adventure at the beginning the police siren doesn't sound properly. But its still best to use it as for some reason(well on my computer) the game runs way too fast with the chankast sound plugin.

Oh yeah if your facing the faces of blockage (lol great name) basically graphical curruptions getting in your way when playing, use nullDC. From what I've read Chankast has stopped development for now and nullDC is doing pretty good, use their video plugin. The main menu screen (well the file loader) is slightly buggy (you can select and see unlike using the plugin with sonic1) but the actual game runs great. Plus it has its own image reader so for most games it'll load the image for you so you don't have to mount it on deamon(which I had problems with installing 3.29). The image formats that will load are CDI, MDS, the evil NRG, and GDI, but if your Rom isn't in that format you can still use the other plugin and just choose your Vir drive to run from.

If this is a repack of the game files here - mirror - then it is not necessary.
I was unsure if this is a new file or simply a reup of the old files here on SOR.

Sometimes people are cryptic about what they are upping. Then I get the PM's
and the thread fills with needless posts.

Mirror - download files then upload on a different host, helps others who cannot
download from certain hosters.

I understand that the Dreamcast troubleshooting section is closed, so I'm not sure where to post this. I burned freebee's cdi with bootdreams then discjuggler 6 and it still doesn't load properly. What should I do?

(I apologize if this is incorrect.)

(I apologize if this is incorrect.)

This should be self-boot, no need for bootdreams.
just unpack and burn cdi with DJ or A120%. If it doesn't work let me know.

narton
10-20-2007, 05:17 PM
No, I said I used the bootdreams burner, I didn't change any of it at all ( I just got a dreamcast, so I don't know how to do that) When that didn't work, I used discjuggler 6 evaluation to burn and it also doesn't work. My dreamcast plays a backup of NHL 2K so I don't think the machine's the problem, but the Sonic file is 766 MB.

When you say "unpack" you mean opening the zip right?

dreamer cab
10-20-2007, 05:32 PM
Yes on the unpack. I've never used DJ6. Many of the DC CDI images were
made on older versions of DJ. Maybe try and find a copy of Diskjuggler 3.5.
I had issues with DJ 4 not recognizing DJ 2 images. I found that the best
burning progs for DC gaming are A120% (v1.9.2), DJ v3.5, Nero 5.5.10.
For instance NERO 6 burns images differently and wont work in a DC.
Hope that helps!

I am also having problems with burning, when I burned Sonic Adventure and Mega Collection plus Windows was able to access the disc, however with SA 2 Windows says the disc is corrupted, I was using BootDreams to burn the image, is there any suggestions?

(I tried disc juggler as well as A 120% but the programs just crash on me)

narton
10-20-2007, 08:14 PM
I finally got it to work thanks to dreamer cab's help and converting in to nrg with CDI2NRG. And I used nero express 5.5 (6 or earlier or it doesn't work)

As I read in the official emu forums:
Now the usual question is - when can you expect a new release? The good news is that, even though no date has been set yet, the release is pretty close (we're talking about weeks, not months any more) - we'll of course keep you updated here on NGEmu should there be any news on this!

Try using the Chankast video plugin instead of NullPVR (the one selected by default). It fixes some graphical and speed issues (I have an ATI card)

Scratch that actually, turns out it shrunk in Alcohol 120% and fits fine on my 700mb CD-R's. Hardcoremasterz version is the way to go guys, works perfectly, my little sister (a sonic fan) is loving it, and we've yet to see any glitches whatsoever.

Is there a music-less rip? I like the game, but I can't stand the music!

There is a hardware hack for this. Have you tried using your TV volume control? :p Failing that (and I must confess I've not yet checked), but is there not an option to turn the music off??.. What WERE Sega thinking?!

O RLY? So that allows me to get rid of the music and keep the dialogues and the sound effects? :boink4: Because that's what I want.

is there not an option to turn the music off??..
Nope... there's only an option to select which music to listen to :comp26:

EDIT:
I found a possible answer in another forum (actually, in the Google cache of that page, since the real page already disappeared). I'm gonna copy and paste the answer here, before it disappears from the Google cache as well:
Try modding the Image CD of Sonic Adventure 2, by replacing all *.adx music files with blank data. Go and Grab CDMage
http://cdmage.orcon.net.nz/frames.html
to modify the content on the Image. Also, don't forget to backup the original image while your at it, CDMage doesn't have any kind of undo options...
I'm gonna try that now.

EDIT #2:
Crap! The last version of CDMage is too old to support that kind of CDI files! Does a similar program (to explore and modify the content of CDI files) exist?

Yeah I know :P

I looked for hours but I just couldn't find a picture of Sonic that was like that. That was exactly the pose I wanted Sonic in, but, could only find one of Shadow, so, I just swapped them. I found a really great 1400x1400 scan of the JP version of the cover, so, I'm going to make an alternate DVD case with just the standard cover. Really I don't mind Shadow being upfront instead of Sonic because Shadow really is sort of the focus of the game, but I can see how not everyone would be a fan of the cover.

The image is in MDS format. Try mounting the image in a virtual drive. Then
make a cdi or nrg image of it. I don't like MDS files for DC, they are prone to issues.

Well it is illegal to do so, so I never do it ;) But I don't think sega would care to much because they would never find out and if they did, they can't do much because you are not hurting their sales because the game is no longer for sale.

CHOOSE WHETHER TO SAVE THE WORLD OR CONQUER IT!

Introducing Sonic Adventure 2, the latest Sonic masterpiece, where
you play as Sonic, Tails, or Knuckles and attempt to save the
world-OR-play as Shadow, Dr. Robotnik, or Rouge and conquer all who
stand in your way. Mistaken for a villain and kidnapped by a
military squad, Sonic must escape his captors and discover who is
responsible for all his trouble. Jump into the action and check out
Sonic's new moves as he grinds rails, swings from poles, and
somersaults past the bad guys. Running at a smooth 60 frames per
second, and containing over 30 action stages, Sonic Adventure 2 is
the perfect way to celebrate Sonic's 10th Birthday-that's right,
this June, we commemorate Sonic's 10 years of super fun and super
speed. Join the fun and get ready for Sonic's biggest adventure yet!

Game Features:

- 6 Playable Characters: Play as hero favorites Sonic, Knuckles or
Tails; or try one of the new villainous characters: Shadow, Rouge,
or Dr. Robotnik.

- 2-player Mode: Compete head-to-head in 3 different modes of
2-player action.

- More than 30 Stages: Action-packed and more than you can handle.

- New Moves: Grind down rails, grab ledges, or swing from poles.

- Improved Chao: Smarter and cuter than ever, Chaos can be collected
and used to open unique features and mini-games.

Rip Notes:

All movies were downsampled on this rip. Half of the music files
were also changed from Stereo to Mono. The bloated browser was
ripped and so was Japanese speech. Obviously, do not set the
speech to Japanese in the Options.

As just about everyone knows by now, the 2 previous Hooligans
rips are non-working. The 1st one freezes after you
complete Level 1 on the Dark Mission, and the 2nd one freezes
after you complete Levels 5 and 12 in the Hero Mission. We have
tested our rip past both freeze spots and it works.

This game is the USA retail copy bought at a store today.
We have no idea where the Hooligans copy came from or what it is.
We were also not willing to mess with their copy or attempt to fix
it because it has corrupt movie files. It is not possible to do
a fix for the Hooligans release of the game.

So, here is a rip of this major title with the Echelon Seal Of
Quality that you can TRUST. Enjoy the game!

Game.....: Sonic Adventure 2 Fix (C) Sega / Sonic Team

Origin...: USA - NTSC - Filename.....: E-SON2FX.ZIP
Released.: June 22nd, 2001 - Format.......: PPF V2.0
Platform.: Sega Dreamcast (DC) - CD(s)........: 1
CD1 Info.: 1 ZIP / 80 MINS - Ripped.......: Read Rip Notes

- --- Release Notes ------------------------------------------------>

- --- Group News --------------------------------------------------->

Get rid of all the other Sonic 2 discs, this is the last one!

Checking files:
You can check if files are not corrupted with CRC included in filename. Try RapidCRC (http://rapidcrc.sourceforge.net/). The RAR files inside archive can be checked using the .sfv file (RapidCRC can open them too).

Extracting files:
Use 7-zip (http://www.7-zip.org/) or any program that can extract .7z extension. For unpacking the RAR files inside archive, you can use WinRAR (http://www.win-rar.com/) or any program that can extract .rar extension.

Patching image file:
You can choose any PPF patcher avaliable here (http://www.megagames.com/psx/psx_ppf.shtml). Personally I recommend PPF-O-Matic.

Burning files:
Alcohol 120% (http://www.alcohol-soft.com/) must burn it right, but I haven't tried. Note that you must apply patch before burning or else you won't be able to finish the game completely.

Ripped: Internet feature, japanese voices and a small trailer of disc 1 (useless, read below).
Downsampled: Nothing!
Source: GD dump and Echelon's release files.
Main features:
- Nothing ripped! Yeah folks, stereo music and full quality videos.
- Better quality ending song of Hero's story (read below).
- Not corrupted files at all, it was made with GD dump and Echelon's release (their patched version, so game works until the end).
- Dummied for 700mb. It means faster loadings.
- Used custom file order. It helps loading times and Dreamcast reader's noise.
- Selfboot.
- It has VGA Box support.
- Release comes with manual and covers.
- "Extras" folder in pack contains some useless stuff, including wallpapers that were in CD part of GD.

======= IMPORTANT =========
=== READ BEFORE PLAYING ===
===========================

As most of you know, Dreamcast GDs can store about 1gb and conventional CDs only 700mb, so some games must be splitted or downsampled in order to fit a CD. This one is a split release. It means that the game was originally 1 disc, and files were separated in multiple discs (in this case 3 discs). This is the content of each disc:

DISC 1: Hero story.
DISC 2: Dark story.
DISC 3: Last chapter (you need to finish both stories to open this one), 2 players games.

Chao features are present on all discs, so don't worry about the disc when raising your pets.

You can play stories in any order you want.

When playing the Boss stages time attack, you can use the correct disc of story or Disc 3. If you're playing all bosses (Hero and Dark), use Disc 3.

The splitted files were only songs and videos, so the other game files are contained in all discs. Be sure to use the correct disc or music won't play and game will freeze when a video is accessed. If some of this happens to you it means that you're using the wrong disc.

=== YOU DON'T HAVE TO READ ANYTHING BELOW THIS POINT ===

I can say without doubt that Sonic Adventure 2 has the best engine ever made for a Dreamcast game. Amazing graphics with constant 60fps (slowdowns are so rare!), it's hard to believe that it's running on Dreamcast. How can you enjoy this great game with crap media? Imagine this great game with mono music and terrible videos. Well, that's Echelon's release. No offense to them, they were a great group and made an amazing job cracking all protections of this game. Additionally, they made their release in the same day that the game arrived at the stores. Without their work, this release wouldn't be possible. The problem about their release is media quality. They monoized some songs, but used a bad decoder. Developers had problems with space in disc too, because they encoded the music in 32khz (most common frequency is 44khz). Well, the problem is that most decoders messes non-44khz music. That's why quality of some songs in Echelon's release got so bad. Additionally, they preserved some songs stereo, so they had very few space for video, so its quality got terrible. To conclude, their release had no correct file order, so reader keep doing noise all the time seeking for distant files.

So, why don't do a split release and give gamers this masterpiece with GD quality?

I used Echelon's files, except media files of course. Media were replaced by the original files. To separate the correct files, I used a clever strategy than the last time. On my split release of Sonic Adventure 1, I just played the game and listened to music, so I could get the correct files. Yeah, that's dumb and demands a lot of work. This time I used Isobuster to get references of LBA for each file. So I made a simple program to give file name for each LBA informed. After that, I just used chapter selection in NullDC and used its sector reading with my program to get the files. Cool right?

In first disc (Hero) I had tons of problems. First of them was missing files. Not all scenes and stages of game can be accessed by scene selection, so some files got missing and I had to find them. Second problem was file order. Original file order was not optimized, so I had to think a little and make some tests until find a correct one. Third problem were random freezes in game that happened because of references for some videos that I forgot to include. Fourth problem were in final scene, where a video plays with a music, so both files are accessed at the same time. I had to move them close to each other to make it play without freezes. Fifth problem was the little trailer that plays after you finish a chapter. After finishing Hero Story, it will play Dark story trailer if you haven't finished that yet or Last Chapter trailer if you have finished Dark Story. The problem is that I forgot to put Last Chapter trailer in disc and there was no space left! It meant that if you finished Dark Story, game would freeze at the end of Hero Story. So I changed file reference to make it always play Dark Story trailer, so everything is working now and you can play the game in the order you want.

In this meantime, I found a cool OST disc on internet with the vocal songs of Sonic Adventure 2. The finish song of Hero chapter was present on this disc. Both game song and disc song were exactly the same and had the same volume. The difference is that the song of the vocal disc had a better quality (44khz), and game song was 32khz. So I encoded the song from the disc (in 44khz of course) and used it to replace the song of the game. It means that ending of Hero Story has better quality music! Funny right? Usually Dreamcast releases have downsampled stuff, but mine is still better than original.

In other discs things went smoothly because I already was used to the problems. In Disc 2, there was enough space so no trailer had to be ripped.

Enjoy the best Sonic Adventure 2 release ever. Plug your Dreamcast with VGA Box on your high definition TV, use a decent sound system and have a great gaming experience. I'm very proud of my work, and I hope you like it.

By the way, I forgot to say that game works great until the end, discs were tested a lot *looks at trash can and see a bunch of test CD-Rs*.

And for the ones who are complaining about changing discs, I'll release a single disc version in next days. But I'll use the same file order and downsample media with the best quality possible. It will be good, but split release is still better. So stop thinking and burn the discs now!

Ripped: Internet feature, japanese voices.
Downsampled: Sound monoized (including video's), FMV downsampled.
Source: GD dump and Echelon's release.

As I promised, here is my single disc release of Sonic Adventure 2. It was much harder to do this than I thought (cost me one full day of work!), but at least the result got nice. It's much superior than Echelon's version, I hope you like it.

I had my first problem when monoizing the sound. The music had something different on its header so Darkfalz's loop calculator found wrong loop data. It means that when repeating, music behaviour was terrible and took playing to the wrong place. After some research, I found no other tool capable of getting the loop samples that I needed. So after some more research I found a description about ADX header, so I could write my own tool to extract loop data. Fortunately, the data I took was correct, so music got perfect. First problem solved.

Note that I used a high quality decoder, so monoized music has high quality. Echelon guys used a decoder that made low quality output with 32khz input (frequency of most songs of this game), so my release has better mono songs. Echelon guys also decided to keep some songs stereo (sacrificing video quality), but I monoized all. There were some Chao songs that were mono already, so I let them untouched.

Hard part done? No. When I started working on videos I noticed another problem. Video had 2 audio streams: first one with japanese audio and second one with english audio. At first look there was no problem, but I had no idea of how multiplexing things back after downsampling. Dreamcast Movie Maker (that I used as multiplexer) was only capable of multiplexing one audio stream. After (some more!) research I found a rare tool. It was hidden among lots of posts on a forum and was made by a guy called Zench. He used a DLL of CRI's multiplexer and wrote a wrapper for it, so it could be used as a windows tool. Using that, I was able to multiplex video as it was, with two audio streams. Well, maybe you're asking why worrying about both streams if we only need english audio. The reason is simple: english was the second stream. Using only a stream made video play fine when japanese audio was selected, but made game freezes when english audio was selected. Well, after finally finding how to multiplex video, I replaced japanese audio with a 1 second crap quality sound and monoized english audio. Video was downsampled using VBR, so quality got very nice (much better than Echelon's release!).

There were some videos used in effects of real time cutscenes in the game. Echelon had downsampled them, I kept them intact.

The rest of work was a piece of cake, because I already had my optimized file order that I used in my split release.

By the way, I used Echelon's binaries (the patched version, so game works until the end) in my release. This game had tons of protection checks (play the GDI in NullDC and check how often game check the LBA near 45000), and Echelon made an awesome job cracking them. Without them, this release would not be possible.

If you want a version with full quality videos (no downsampling) and stereo sound, check my split release of Sonic Adventure 2. But if you're too lazy to change discs, this version is perfect for you. This is the best experience possible in one disc. Have fun.

Features of my release:
- Not corrupted files at all, it was made with GD dump and Echelon's release.
- Media with higher quality than other releases.
- Used custom file order. It helps loading times and Dreamcast reader noise.
- Selfboot.

About the game:
- It has VGA Box support.

Other comments:
- "Extras" folder in the pack contains some useless stuff, including wallpapers that were in CD part of GD.
- Release comes with manual and covers.

Use 7-zip. For unpacking the RAR files inside archive, you can use WinRAR.

Burning files:
Alcohol 120% probably can burn all extensions, but I recommend Disc Juggler for CDI files.

Quick question regarding Tux's mirror, what settings do I burn
it under? I don't know the general setting it should be burned
w/ using discjuggler, the majority of the games I've burned
showed me what settings to use and they all had something different.

There is nothing special on this one (not overburn or anything), so any DJ settings should burn fine.

Not true. If you don't have a VMU plugged in, the game will say it can't save along with Sonic asking "Did you forget a memory card?" Eventually the screen will fade away and start up like normal.

At least, that's what happens with my own actual disc of the game.

Also want to point out that after having downloaded and burned the CDI version, the game has locked up when I've selected Options and "Download Event" under the Extras setting.

wow, it seems like the last time i saw this thread there was only the ECH version here. anyways the dcres version obviously works much better and i think it deserves a megaupload mirror, so here goes.

There were some Chao songs that were mono already, so I let them untouched.

hey does anyone know where i can find a iso of this that doesn't have the internet ripped from it>? cuz i wanna use the chao dlc and the other dlc but i cant cuz the damned internet is ripped usually...

You can put the DLCs on your VMU directly from internet with the web browser disc from certain webpages (:google:). The official web of SA2 (the one which link from the SA2 browser) is down since several years now, so it's useless.

It's not the official page, it's a backup made probably using an automatized program. If that's the true, the links were "hunted" not using SA2 browser, what means it got that message and assumed it was the page taken by that link. So no matter what browser you use, it will always show that message.

has anyone considered editing the textures and making a "new" game?

cOcO!
02-05-2010, 11:00 PM
Changing textures won't make a new game at all... besides, if you REALLY wanna have the "another game" feeling, you should ALSO edit the voices matching the ones to the new textures. Let's say, for example, you change Rouge's textures by Donkey Kong. Having a primate screaming YEAH like a lil' girl doesn't sound reasonable to me
